The Amalfi Coast is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the SS163 that runs along it has a fair claim to being both the most frightening and the most beautiful coast road anywhere. Limestone goes straight up on one side; on the other it goes straight down into blue you cannot see the bottom of.

Start at Bomerano and walk the Sentiero degli Dei — the Path of the Gods — five hundred metres up, with the whole Sorrentine peninsula and the outline of Capri laid out below. There is wind off the sea in your face and terraced lemon groves falling away under your boots.

The light in the ice-cave set is extraordinary — especially the warm-to-cool separation at 14mm and f/2.8. Is the Crystal Cave better first thing in the morning, or around midday?
